Insead Alumni Event Middle East
The Insead Business School held an event in 2010 in Cairo for all its alumni to allow networking among your executives within the business and financial field. Union Capital sponsored the event which hosted Egyptian businessman Naguib Sawiris as a speaker as well as Union Capital Chairman and Cofounder; Hani Sarieeldin.
Union Capital was the only financial institution that sponsored the Baladna Exhibition organized by the Industrial Modernization Centre (IMC) and the Egyptian Ministry of Industry, which took place at the Cairo International Conference Centre between May 19 and May 22nd, 2016. Union Capital joined this exhibition in an attempt to support SME’s in Egypt. The Managing Director of Union Capital spoke at the Exhibition which was attended by the Company Chairman.
Start up Weekend – Luxor
Minoush Abdel Meguid participated in startup weekend Luxor on behalf of UC as a mentor and judge on March 6th - 8th 2014. The participation of our Managing Director highlighted our continued support to young entrepreneurs, their initiatives and business ideas as well strive to build a startup in Egypt ecosystem.
Start up Weekend – Aswan
Union Capital participated in Aswan Start up weekend between November 14th to 16th, 2013. 25 teams of several entrepreneurs participated in this startup weekend, they worked together to transform their creative ideas into business models in all sectors. The event was sponsored by USAID part of their entrepreneurship programs.
Startup Weekend – Giza
Minoush Abdel Meguid participated in startup weekend Giza as a mentor, the event took place on 17th & 18th May 2013 at the Smart Village. She spent a whole weekend working with contenders guiding them to move their ideas into business plans with a clear timeline and feasibility tests.
Startup Weekend – Port Said
Union Capital joined as a sponsor in Port Said Next Gen Competition that took place on November 2011 in Portsaid governorate in Egypt. Over 20 plans were submitted that day and Abdelmeguid was among the three panel judge that picked winners. The event was organized by Port Said SME Association and the Global Entrepreneurship program which is part of the USAID’s Egypt competitiveness program and supported by Port Said University. Union Capital believes entrepreneurial events provides successful SMEs of the future and is always proud to be part of eco development chain for SMEs in Egypt.
Start Up Battle – Egypt
Minoush Abdel Meguid participated as a judge in the judging panel of Startup Battle which was the first startup battle held in Egypt taking place on December 26th, 2013 at the Conrad Cairo Hotel. In this event one winner was crowned to be the ultimate Egyptian start up weekend champion.
Egypt SSC Union Capital Prize
Union Capital provided up to 10 hours of direct one-on-one mentorship to the winning team of the SSC Egypt, providing pre-incubation services, help them developing the business plan, researching actual steps of implementation as well as the feasibility of the project and providing financial management guidance.
Union Capital joined in as a sponsor in the 15th International Telecommunication, Information Technology Trade Fair (Cairo ICT Fair) and Forum of The Middle East and North Africa in 2011, which took place at the Cairo International Conference Center. Cairo ICT is the first international exhibition and conference organized in Egypt after the January 25 revolution.
Union Capital sponsored the “Entrepreneurship Booth” of Egypreneur held under the slogan “A Future in the Making,” stressing the importance of the ICT sector as an integral part of changes taking place in New Egypt.

Startup Weekend – Alex
Union Capital is proud to be part in mentorship young entrepreneurs believing its part of the community duties.
Startup Weekend Alexandria took place on September 22nd-24th in 2011 at the Arab Academy for Science, Technology & Maritime Transportation. Startup Weekend is a non-profit based in Seattle, Washington, that organizes 54-hour events in cities around the world, all of which help educate, support, and empower people to become entrepreneurs.
Startup Weekend’s mission is not to churn out as many startups as possible, but rather to provide high-energy, collaborative environment that facilitates experiential education and meaningful connection.
Startup weekends are 54-hour events where developers, coders, designers, marketers, product managers and startups enthusiasts come together in Alexandria to share ideas, form teams, build products and create startups. It is a weekend-long, hands-on experiments where entrepreneurs and aspiring entrepreneurs can find out if startup ideas are viable. The event had about 400 attendees, half of which have technical backgrounds and the other half have business background.
Google announced a new competition called ‘Ebda2 with Google’ in September 2011, at which UC’s CIO, Minoush Abdelmeguid participated as a judge and mentor. Google hopes to find and award Egypt’s most talented entrepreneurs with 200,000 dollars in seed capital “to bring their winning business ideas to the market. The concept of Ebda2 is to “Inspire entrepreneurs to start their own businesses and become contributors to the society at large using technology as a catalyst for growth and economic prosperity.” UC also lead a coaching session for contestants entitled Perfecting Your Pitches.
