Ehab Hassan

Special Situations Investment

Ehab Hassan has 20 years of research, trading, structuring and special situation investment managing US$ 6 billion across asset classes and geographies. He started off in 2000 as a euro-bond trader in Cairo, Egypt market-making on issues from Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Egypt, and Turkey. In 2003 he moved over to equities covering Egypt and GCC markets. During that period Ehab worked as a portfolio manager at  Dubai Group, a SWF in the UAE and head of strategy and product development at Naeem Holding in Riyadh, KSA for UHNW clients.

Prior to joining Union Capital and since 2013 Ehab has been the Executive Director at ASAS Capital and Managing Partner of the investment vehicles focusing on Liquid Strategies (global macro & securities selection) & Special Situations Strategies (PIPEs & distressed) in global markets. His flagship strategy managed for a select club of private clients registered an annualized return of 30%, from July 2013 to August 2019.

Ehab’s edge is seeking returns in spaces that are unfamiliar, contrarian and require human capital. His philosophy is based on the belief that the markets are in constant state of uncertainty and price discovery. He is forward looking and does not give much weight to the concept of “mean reversion”.

Ehab is currently allocating a large portion of his time to researching, engaging, and investing across the capital structure in emerging and frontier markets. The focus is on direct, non-investment grade credit solutions in both public and private markets across the value spectrum. His aim is to be part of building the buyside ecosystem that addresses the challenges and opportunities as a result of the cost of capital and the limited access to it.
